CUSD4 will begin using eLearning Days to replace traditional "Snow Days." At registration there was a handout outlining the proposed eLearning Day Program for Unity Schools. CUSD4 has applied to use up to five school days per year virtually when the district would have otherwise been closed due to inclement weather or other reasons. Notably, these virtual eLearning Days count as student attendance days and no emergency days need to be added to the end of the school year.
My goal for this school year is to implement our eLearning Days as smoothly as possible and as successfully as we can for all of our students, staff and parents. To this end we have met over the course of the last few months preparing for eLearning Days with the staff to help structure the program. Additionally, a public hearing for eLearning was held Nov. 20, 2019 in which the program was presented and to answer any questions parents or the community might have. Teachers have spoken to their students about the eLearning Program and will be running "practice" eLearning Days. The first practice run will be over the Thanksgiving Break. The first "practice" will be just making a connection with the teacher via Google Classroom, Class Dojo, or via a note in a "Blizzard Bag." Blizzard Bags are for those students who do not have internet capabilities at home or need more accommodations for their learning than provided online.
Attached you will find our eLearning Day guidance documents for the program, parent expectations and student expectations. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call your building administrator or me at school. It is our hope this program will become the norm for our district going forward so our students will not lose out on learning when school has to be cancelled.
Again, thank you for being a part of our team in educating your child. It is through parental support of school and education we see students be most successful.
