Greenfield Elementary will close at the end of the 2014-15 school year. After studying the situation, receiving a great deal of input from the community, and discussing a wide range of options, we have decided this is the best path forward for our district. It was certainly an emotional decision, but almost everyone I have spoken with agree that it is the right decision at the right time. The decision has been made, but there is much work yet to be done.
The administrative team and building staff members have already spent a number of hours discussing and planning how to best proceed with the transition in facilities. There are a wide range of details we must consider. And then comes the seemingly endless task of packing up classrooms, cleaning buildings, moving boxes, and the immense work that takes place while students are enjoying summer vacation.
The Board of Education will soon make a formal decision on what happens with Greenfield Elementary once it is closed. There has been ongoing discussion on this issue at community nights and board meetings. We spent a great deal of time discussing various options during our two January meetings. Based on those discussions, it seems a general agreement has developed that the district needs to sell Greenfield Elementary. The Board will take an official vote on whether or not to sell the building in February. If things would progress according to the past discussion, then it is likely the actual sale will take place during the fall 2015 semester.
