120 people gathered last night to talk about our partnership with John Wood Community College, the current school finance situation, and extracurricular activities. I will share some initial thoughts I have following the event. This will be my first of a few blog posts as a follow up to the community night.
- What a Turnout!
We had 120 people at the last Community Night! That is an outstanding turnout. As we struggle with difficult decisions that impact our district, it is reassuring to see so many people come out to be a part of the solution. - No Easy Answers
The financial situation is extremely complex. And there are a wide range of factors that contribute to it. As I looked at the discussion our Board of Education has been engaged in for several months, it was a bit overwhelming to press all that information into a 15 minute presentation. As we continue to sort through comment cards and compile the responses, know that we have a full range of responses. They range from "raise taxes as much as you need" to "you should be decreasing taxes". They range from "cut 10 employees" to "we need to be adding people and programs instead of cutting". - What did People Say?
We've typed up the responses everyone wrote on their white cards. Those cards were grouped under each discussion heading. You see full responses below.
