April 1, 2015 was the third Community Night event since last spring. Each night is filled with information sharing, good questions, and honest dialogue. I'm always grateful to get ideas and perspectives from the district. I love to see people sit down and have a good discussion over these challenging questions. We don't have to agree - in fact the best thinking comes in the tension of opposing viewpoints when we have some common good in mind.
During the first Community Night we asked for ideas on how to cut spending. Out of that discussion the idea for closing Greenfield came up. It seemed far fetched, but as more discussion took place it became clear it was the best path forward.
The Community Night we held this past fall led to excellent discussion on the value of programs, activities, school finances, and additional details on the closing of Greenfield Elementary. We find ourselves in a challenging financial situation caused by the financial condition of Illinois.
I would like to especially thank those who took the time to attend and participate in these events. I have been late in posting the summaries of feedback on the website, but will do that below.
